The range of offerings at Galerie Brockstedt reflects the interest of the gallery’s founder, Hans Brockstedt, in figurative art.
This applies in particular to the gallery’s work with modernist artists, and especially movements from the 1920s and 1930s in Germany, such as the New Objectivity (Christian Schad, Rudolf Schlichter, Karl Hubbuch, Ernst Fritsch, Alexander Kanoldt), Verism (George Grosz, Otto Dix, Jeanne Mammen), Dadaism (Kurt Schwitters), the Cologne Progressives (Franz Wilhelm Seiwert, Heinrich Hoerle), Surrealism (Richard Oelze), and Outsider Art (Friedrich Schröder-Sonnenstern, Wölfli), to name just a few examples.
In contemporary art, the gallery focuses mainly on artists who have dedicated themselves to representational and figurative art. These include the Spanish Realists (Francisco Lopez, Isabel Quintanilla, Maria Moreno, Salustiano) as well as representatives of the expressive Berlin Realism (Johannes Grützke, Hans Scheib) and the north German artists Horst Janssen and Richard Oelze, among others.
